Flower Details

I have been asked some questions about putting the paper flowers together with the stem--So I thought I'd post some pictures and explain a little more.

For the stem I used a piece of CS that was 12 x 1 1/2 -I crumpled it up--then flattened it back out. I used a pencil to help get the paper to roll.
After I made the first big flower I realized the stem needed some support. My first thought was I needed a thick gauge wire-but alas-I don't have that in my scrap room--but these paper clips were sitting in front of me and ah ha--an idea was born! I unfolded paper clips, glued them down the center-then just rolled up the CS and glued down the edge. Then to get the flower to adhere to the stem I took another paper clip--unfolded half of it--
I put a huge drop of glue down the opening of the stem and put the folded end of the paper clip in the stem--then I covered the strait end of the paper clip with glue and stuck it up through the flower-(-the point where all the petals meet). NEXT--to make the transition from stem to flower I punched a 2 inch scallop circle then punched a hole in the center of that and cut this into four pieces--
then used glue dots to stick these to the stem--overlapped them and used Liquid Glass to stick together where needed. I think this part of a real flower is called the sepal (?).So there you have it!! My first blog tutorial! Thank you Ryan for the question!
Have a great weekend everybody.

Flower Bouquet

I am so excited about my paper flower bouquet of fall flowers! I stumbled across a tutorial on Dawn's Stamping Stdio blog yesterday and just had to give it a go! She did a you-tube video on how to make them and they are so easy! (Click on the blog name and it will take you right to her post on these.) I added stems and flowers to mine. I'm going to make some more flowers to fill my vase, but I just had to get this posted for you all to see!
This flower was made from a designer paper from the old "Laid Back" paper pack. A silver "Shimmer" Designer Brad adorns the center of this beautiful flower!

This flower was made with a B&T bulk pack called "Small Leaves". and a gold "Shimmer" Designer Brad is its center.

These cute little flowers are made from a B&T from the "Magic Moments" paper pack with a cranberry "Bigger Brad" for the center.
Off to make some more flowers! Hope you have as much fun as I am with this!
Cheers!!

Mojo Monday #158

Every once in awhile I feel the need to try a sketch on the Mojo Monday blog and here is this weeks attempt! I tried to do the box pleat technique, and my "pleats"are not even--so I stuck a little skull on them! I used:
from Close to My Heart: Hooligans Level 1 Paper Pack, Black card stock and the ribbon is from the Mini-Medley Accents Collection-in the new Sunset color. Inks used were Key Lime and Autumn Terracota markers and the VersaMark inkpad was used for the embossing powder. The embossing powder is non-ctmh that I have had around forever and is a sparkly black. The stamp set used was September's Stamp of the Month called "Thriller".
It's been a long time since I've done a card! Thanks for stopping in today and looking!

Fall Drive

We started a tradition the first fall we moved to Colorado, the "Fall Drive". We just love driving through the mountains and taking in the spectacular color display of the Aspen. This year we drove for three days, and crossed the Continental Divide seven times!
Ace went with us and proved to be a wonderful travel companion. He loved all the new sights and smells. He attracted lots of attention from other people and met quite a few nice dogs too!
(click on any picture to see it full size)
Day 1: we stopped at Gray's Peak; it would have been only a 5 mile hike to summit this fourteener and Brian would have loved to add it to his list , but we just didn't leave ourselves enough time to do it. We did hike the path for quite a way, it was Ace's first hike and he did a great job! We did have to carry the little puppy down the mountain though! Next we drove through Glenwood Springs which was beautiful and ended up in Redstone, where we stayed in a cute little cabin at a place called Avalanche Ranch.
We absolutely fell in love with this place! The next day we headed out and immediately started driving through photo opp after photo opp!

We drove to Crested Butte via Kebler Pass, a wonderful drive to see the Aspen. We stopped in Crested Butte for a picnic lunch then headed to Aspen via Cottonwood Pass (summit 12,126 feet) and Independence Pass (summit 12,095 feet). When I mention these "Pass" names and summit elevations, do you picture narrow dirt roads, with major drop offs on the passenger side? Yes, that is how it was! We were off the beaten path and on the scenic route! At one point, the drop was actually on the driver's side, and we were on a really rocky road. Brian looked out his window and said, "Wow, look at the view down there." Then he looked at me and said, "you probably would rather I watch the road!"
It was quite the adventure! We saw so much and had a wonderful time, it was a great trip!
