Drawer-Card Boxes

 I don't know what else to call this--than what it is--a box that has a drawer and is also a card! They can hold candy and/or gift cards. I was inspired by a Close to My Heart consultant  a few years ago and tweaked the design to be large enough to hold a gift card.
I'm making quite a few of these with birthday and Valentine themes for the boutique where I sell some of my crafty things!


Here are instructions on how to make a Drawer-Card Box.

First you need one piece of cardstock - 3 1/2" x 12"

Score at 1/2", 4 1/16", 5 1/8", 8 5/8", and 9 11/16". 

 Fold at all score lines.

Put glue on 1/2" tab. For these kind of projects I like this Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive. The applicator tip is small, so you get nice thin lines of glue.

 This tab is placed right under that last score line.

 Now you need a piece of cardstock in a coordinating color that is 3 1/2" square. This gets glued under the short flap on top of the card--to complete the "card" part of the box.

Have fun decorating the front of the card.

For the "drawer" part of the card:


One piece of cardstock - 5 7/16" x 5 7/16" -- score at 1" on all four sides.
Cut in on parallel score lines just to horizontal score. It is hard to see, but I marked the places to cut in the picture to the left. Enlarge picture by clicking on it to get a better look.

Miter corners--and now fold on all score lines.

 

 Put dot of glue on small
triangular tabs, and assemble.

Cut a piece of  pattern paper  7/8" x 3 3/8" and place on front of drawer. Use eyelets or brads to attach ribbon for the handle of the drawer.
The drawer is now ready to slide the drawer into the opening under your card.
For the inside of the card (or top of the box!) Cut a piece of coordinating cardstock 3"x3" and then in white or  colonial white cut a piece at 2 3/4" x 2 3/4".  Stamp or write your greeting on this piece. Adhere the white piece to the 3" square, and the 3" square onto the box.
Now get ready to receive an extra special smile when you give this away!

Not Just a Box

Last year a cute box/drawer/card was shared on the Close to My Heart bulletin board. I wish I had the name of who I got the original instructions from because she really inspired me! The original box was too small to hold a gift card so I took that idea and changed the dimensions.I'll be placing the gift card on a bed of red and green M&M's! This is one of the projects offered in my Christmas Gift Workshop being held December 3rd.

Gift Card Holder

Even though it is what the kids want, I just don't feel right giving gift cards! So--I must come up with a fun way to package them! These pizza box holders were the easiest things to make and turned out so cute! This candy cane was inspired by Bren Yule, a Close to My Heart sister that does gorgeous work.
